Esta es la historia real de Freddy y Walter, dos jóvenes judíos eslovacos que fueron deportados a Auschwitz en 1942. El 10 de abril de 1944, tras una meticulosa planificación y con la ayuda y la resistencia de los reclusos, consiguen escapar.
